David T. Harris

Professor

Dr. David Harris is a graduate of Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, where he obtained Bachelor of Science degrees in Biology, Mathematics and Psychology in 1978.  He earned a Masters of Medical Sciences from Bowman Gray Medical School in 1980 and his Doctorate in Microbiology and Immunology from Bowman Gray Medical School in 1982.  From 1982-1985 Dr. Harris was a Post-doctorate Fellow at the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research in Lausanne, Switzerland. He joined the faculty at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill as a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine in 1985 and became member of the faculty at the University of Arizona in Tucson as an Associate Professor in the Department of Immunobiology in 1989.  Dr. Harris established the first cord blood bank in the USA in 1992 and founded 5 companies while at the University of Arizona. He attended university on a football scholarship and maintained his  interest in sports thourghout his career.

Michael Steven Badowski

Associate Research Scientist

Michael Badowski obtained his PhD in Immunology at The University of Arizona under the mentorship of Dr. Harris, constructing chimeric T cell receptors.  He also did his post-doctoral years with Dr. Harris generating and analyzing humanized mice before joining the Biorepository to manage the day-to-day operations at the biobank. He also has a profound interest in Tough Mudder races.

José Camarena

Research Specialist

José obtained his BS in Molecular & Cellular Biology and is currently a Master's student in the Applied Biosciences Program. He is currently working on an umbilical cord blood project in the labor & delivery department. In his free time he likes to hike, do yoga, and travel. 

Brandon Jernigan

Research Specialist

Brandon is finishing a Graduate Certificate in Quality and Reliability Engineering and is responsible for quality and IT at the UAHS Biorepository.

Simran Sahnan

Research Specialist

Simran obtained her BS in Physiology at the University of Arizona and is currently pursuing a Masters in Public Health. She is currently working on a stem cell umbilical cord blood project in the Labor & Delivery Department. Additionally, she works on the Parkinson Genomics Study with Helix. She is also currently working on the management and assembly of COVID-19 test kits. In her spare time she likes to play badminton, hike, and play Mario Kart. 

Ayman Sami

Research Specialist

Ayman Sami is a Masters student in the Medical Pharmacology department. He is hoping to do medical school with an MD/PhD. Ayman handles the website component of the biobank, as well as the Redcap system. Additionally, he leads the Parkinson Genomics study with Helix. Ayman enjoys walking, hiking, spending time with family and learning new things.
